Brogue refers to the punched detailing in shoe leather. A cap toe shoe can be brogued, but it's not a wingtip (it doesn't have wings). And there are wingtip shoes that don't have broguing (think of those tacky two-tone patent leather 'tuxedo' shoes). — Asked by Anonymous

Thanks, I see your point. But if you describe shoes as “brogues”, you generally mean a full brogue, which has the characteristic wing-shaped toe cap.
